Dr. James J. Schweiger, a distinguished Doctor of Optometry, brings a wealth of expertise to our In Focus Specialty Contact Lens & Visual Solutions. In 2013, Dr. Schweiger earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences with a Minor in Business from the University of Alberta in Canada. He later graduated from the Arizona College of Optometry in Glendale, Arizona. Dr. Schweiger is renowned for his strong passion for fitting scleral lenses and employs cutting-edge technology and methods to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

 

His dedication to the field of specialty contact lenses began in 2013, where Dr. Schweiger assisted in scleral contact lens design under the guidance of Dr. Natasha Randhawa at Sherwood Park Eye Center in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. He continued his education through clinical internships in specialty contact lens and prosthetics, mentored by Dr. Jamie Kuhn, OD, FAAO, Dr. Florencia Yeh, OD, FAAO, FSLS, and Dr. Bryanna Ryff, OD, FAAO in the Contact Lens Department at the Midwestern University Eye Institute.

 

Witnessing the transformative impact of specialty contact lenses on visual clarity and the overall quality of life for patients with advanced ocular conditions has fueled his enthusiasm for this specialized field.

 

Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Schweiger is actively engaged in community service. His commitment to enhancing primary care exams for native populations was evident during his clinical externships at Fort Belknap Hospital and Chickasaw Nation Health Clinic. Additionally, he has contributed to local charity events such as Phoenix HOPEfest and participated in international initiatives with the Lions Club in Mexico.

 

With six years of experience serving diverse populations in Phoenix and throughout Arizona in general care, Dr. Schweiger is eager to apply his personalized approach to meet patient needs while now offering more specialized solutions within our practice.
