A patient with advanced keratoconus, facing a severe corneal distortion measured at 72.0 Diopters—far beyond the average 45.5 Diopters—struggled with significantly impaired vision. With glasses, their best corrected vision was only 20/200, making even basic tasks challenging and impacting their quality of life.

In our quest to find a more effective solution, we fitted the patient with a scleral lens. This type of lens is particularly suited to managing severe keratoconus because it vaults over the cornea without touching it, providing a smooth optical surface that corrects vision by neutralizing irregularities caused by the keratoconus.

The impact was dramatic: the patient achieved clear, comfortable 20/25 vision. This significant improvement not only allowed them to perform daily activities with ease but also restored a level of independence and confidence that had been diminished by their condition.

For those suffering from advanced keratoconus, scleral lenses offer a potential lifeline, providing clear vision and comfort where other methods fall short. Reach out to discuss how this innovative option might bring similar improvements to your visual health.
